Menurut Badan Pusat Statistik (BPS), rata-rata upah buruh , karyawan, atau pegawai di Indonesia belum menembus Rp 3 juta/bulan. Pada 2018, rata-rata upah status pekerja tersebut sebesar Rp 2,83 juta/bulan. Kemudian meningkat menjadi Rp 2,91 juta/bulan.
Tenaga kepemimpinan dan ketatalaksanaan mendapat jatah upah tertinggi dibanding jenis pekerjaan lainnya. Angkanya mencapai Rp 6,55 juta/bulan pada 2018 dan meningkat menjadi Rp 6,68 juta/bulan setahun setelahnya. Sebaliknya, tenaga usaha pertanian, perkebunan, peternakan, perikanan, kehutanan, dan perburuan mempunyai upah terkecil. Jenis pekerjaan tersebut hanya mendapat Rp 1,78 juta/bulan pada 2018 dan naik menjadi Rp 1,89 juta/bulan pada 2019.

DPR baru saja mengesahkan Rancangan Undang-Undang Cipta Kerja atau Omnibus Law pada Senin (5/10) lalu. Keputusan tersebut mendapat penolakan dari beragam pihak, terutama kelompok buruh. Para buruh, utamanya pekerja kontrak dan alih daya dapat tereksploitasi dengan upah rendah.
