RCTI dan iNews mengajukan uji materi Undang-Undang Nomor 32 Tahun 2002 tentang Penyiaran ke Mahkamah Konstitusi. Kedua stasiun televisi tersebut menggugat agar definisi penyiaran juga menyasar layanan over the top (OTT) atau siaran melalui internet.
Adapun, RCTI dan iNews berada di bawah naungan PT Media Nusantara Citra Tbk (MNCN), bersama dua stasiun televisi lainnya, yakni MNCTV dan GTV. Sepanjang semester I-2020, perusahaan memperoleh laba bersih sebesar Rp 956,2 miliar, turun 17,4% secara tahunan.

Dalam lima tahun terakhir, laba bersih perusahaan pun tercatat menurun. Keuntungan sebesar Rp 1 triliun pada 2016 turun menjadi Rp 775,1 miliar dan Rp 636,6 miliar pada tahun-tahun berikutnya.
