Menteri Kelautan dan Perikanan Edhy Prabowo mengungkapkan maraknya penyelundupan ekspor benih lobster selama pelarangan berjalan. Kementeriannya (KKP) mencatat selama periode 2015 hingga Juni 2019 terdapat 254 kasus penyelundupan benih lobster yang telah digagalkan.
Total benih lobster yang berhasil diselamatkan dari upaya penyelundupan ini mencapai 8,6 juta ekor. Adapun total nilainya Rp 1,2 triliun.

Penyelundupan yang berhasil digagalkan terbanyak selama periode tersebut terjadi satu tahun setelah larangan ekspor diterapkan, yaitu 2017 sebanyak 100 kasus. Sementara berdasarkan jumlah dan nilainya, 2018 tercatat paling tinggi sebanyak 2,5 juta ekor dengan nilai SD Rp 463,3 miliar.
