Mulai Oktober 2017, pemerintah mewajibkan pengguna kartu telepon seluler
Berdasarkan data Kementerian Komunikasi dan Informatika, jumlah kartu seluler yang teregistrasi sejak awal Oktober-Desember 2017 mencapai 131,40 juta unit. Jumlah tersebut baru mencakup sekitar 33,45% dari total jumlah kartu seluler yang beredar. Proses registrasi ulang masih berlangsung hingga 28 Februari 2018.
Berdasarkan data enam operator, jumlah kartu seluler yang beredar di Indonesia mencapai 392,78 juta unit, sementara jumlah penduduk Indonesia hanya 262 juta jiwa. Artinya rasio jumlah kartu seluler yang beredar terhadap populasi mencapai hampir 150 persen atau setiap penduduk menggunakan lebih dari 1 kartu seluler.
